What affects website cost: illustration of a website built from blocks next to scales with coins

The cost of a website depends on its type and scope. At SITE.LT a one-page landing page costs from €399, a multi-page business website from €499 and an online shop from €999 – our packages and full price list are on the website prices page. This article explains what sits behind those figures: which factors push the price up, which costs come back every year and how to compare quotes from different developers so you neither overpay nor get surprised after launch.

All prices mentioned here are final – VAT is not applicable.

Start with the type of website

The first question is what kind of website you need, because it shapes both the price and the timeline.

  • Landing page – a single page with one goal: one service, one product or one advertising campaign.
  • Business website – separate pages for your services, your work and your contact details.
  • Online shop – on top of that, a product catalogue, a basket, online payments and order management, which is why it costs more.

Each type is described in more detail on our pages about website development, landing page design and ecommerce development.

What drives the price of building a website

A ‘from’ price is the minimum for the simplest version. The final cost grows with the amount of work, and these are the factors that change it most.

Number of pages

Every page needs a structure, a layout and content. A five-page website and a thirty-page catalogue are completely different jobs, even though both are called ‘a website’.

Design

A clean, simple design in your colours and with your logo costs less than an elaborate layout with animations and custom-drawn elements. If you do not have a logo yet, you can order one at the same time – it appears as a separate line in the quote. How we approach design work is explained on our design services page.

Features

An enquiry form and contact details are standard. A booking system, a product catalogue, filters, user accounts and connections to payment or delivery services all add to the price. The more a website has to do, rather than just show, the more development work it takes.

Languages

Every extra language means extra pages, menus and settings for search engines. Each extra language adds +15–25% to the price; the exact share depends on the number of pages and on who translates the copy. We build websites in any language, for example Lithuanian and English.

Copy and photos

If you supply the copy and photos, adding them to the site and laying them out is already included in the price. If you have no copy, we can write it for an extra charge: copywriting costs from €29/page. Well-written copy often matters more than the design: it is what customers read and what Google Search evaluates.

SEO

Building a website includes basic technical SEO: page titles, meta descriptions, H1–H3 headings and image alt text. Keyword and competitor research and an optimisation plan are part of full SEO optimisation, which is ordered separately and usually adds about 20–25% to the cost of building the website.

What the price of a website usually includes

When you compare quotes, check what is included in the build price and what will be charged separately.

Usually included Often charged separately
Design in your colours and with your logo Logo design
Phone and tablet versions Copywriting
Basic technical SEO Full SEO optimisation
Adding and laying out your copy and photos Extra languages
Warranty on the work done Domain, hosting and maintenance

What exactly the SITE.LT price includes – packages, warranty and payment terms – is set out on our website prices page.

Yearly costs after launch

Building a website is a one-off cost, but to keep it online you pay for the domain and hosting every year. It is worth including these in your budget from the start.

  • Domain. Your address, for example yourcompany.lt. A .lt domain costs from €8/year. Make sure the domain is registered in your name or your company’s name.
  • Hosting. The server your website runs on. Hosting a website costs from €60/year; an online shop or a large website from €80/year.
  • Maintenance. Software updates, backups and small changes cost from €29/month. You can also do this yourself if you have the time and skills. More on our website maintenance page.
  • New content. New pages, articles and monthly SEO work – only if your goals call for them.

A quote that shows only the build price does not tell you what the website will cost over several years. Ask about the yearly costs before you decide.

How to compare quotes from different developers

Quotes for what seems to be the same website often differ several times over. To compare like with like, ask every developer the same questions:

  1. How many pages and languages are included? Ask for a list rather than the word ‘website’.
  2. Who prepares the copy and photos? If you are writing the content, count your own time too.
  3. Is the design made for your brand, or is it a template? Both are possible, but they cost different amounts.
  4. How much SEO is included? Basic technical SEO and full optimisation are different jobs.
  5. What will the domain, hosting and maintenance cost? These are costs you pay every year.
  6. Who will own the website and the access details? You should have access to the domain account and the website’s admin area.
  7. What are the timeline, payment terms and warranty? These should be written down in an email or a contract.

The lowest quote is not always the cheapest option: if you later have to pay extra for copy, languages or revisions, the total goes up.

How to lower the cost without cutting quality

A large part of the cost is not development but preparing and agreeing the content. So the easiest savings are in the work you can do yourself:

  • Write the copy. Nobody knows your services better than you. We will add it to the site, lay it out and add headings for search.
  • Send your own photos. Real photos of your work, your team or your premises often work better than stock images.
  • Start with what you need now. A well-planned website can grow: new pages, languages or features can be added later.
  • Order several services together. For example, a logo and a website – in such cases we offer discounts.

If your budget is very tight, it makes sense to start with a one-page landing page and expand it into a full website later.

How to get an exact price for your website

An exact price is possible once it is clear which pages, features and languages you need. Before a consultation, it helps to prepare:

  • a few websites you like, and what you like about them;
  • a draft list of pages;
  • whether you already have a logo, copy and photos;
  • the languages the website should be in.

From this we work out the price and timeline before work starts. If you need a detailed description of the work, we can prepare a technical specification for €120. Prices for all our services are on the website prices page.

Tell us what kind of website you need, and we will send you an exact quote with the price and timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Why do quotes for the same website vary so much?

Quotes vary because the word 'website' can hide very different amounts of work. One quote covers a template with no copy, another a custom design, several languages, content layout and search setup. Compare what exactly will be done, who prepares the content and what the yearly running costs will be, not just the final figures.

Which costs come after a website goes live?

Every year you pay for the domain and hosting, because without them the website stops working. Maintenance, meaning software updates, backups and small changes, is optional: you can do it yourself or hand it to specialists. New pages, articles and monthly SEO work are only needed if your goals call for them.

How can I keep the cost of a website down?

The biggest saving comes from writing the copy and supplying the photos yourself, so you do not pay for creating them. It also helps to decide clearly which pages and features you need now and which can wait. We offer discounts when you order several services together, and a one-page landing page often suits the smallest budget.

Who should own the domain and the website?

The domain should be registered in your name or your company’s name, not the developer’s. Ask for access to the domain account and the website’s admin area as well. Then you can change developer or hosting provider at any time without losing your address. Agree on this before work starts and get it confirmed by email or in the contract.

What should I prepare before asking for a quote?

Prepare a few websites you like and note what you like about them, a draft list of pages, and the languages the site needs. Say whether you already have a logo, copy and photos. With this, a developer can give you an exact price and timeline instead of a rough range, and quotes from different studios become easier to compare.
