Website and logo for a parcel delivery company in Estonia
Autopost, based in Tallinn, carries parcels and groupage freight by van across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland and Scandinavia. We designed a new logo for the company and built its website in Estonian, English and Russian. It took 8 days from the design mock-up to launch.
The task
The company's manager came to us because she was no longer happy with the old website and wanted it reviewed and renewed. It ran on WordPress 4.6 with an early-2010s design, existed only in Estonian and had no mobile version or HTTPS. The home page showed “No Results Found” and the contact page returned an error. The previous developer was slow to reply, and even small changes took a long time.
Solution
Before writing a proposal, we went through the old site and the sites of competitors – DPD, Venipak, Sendpack and Palletways – and drew up a list of the most common search terms. In a single email, before any contract, the manager received an audit of the old site listing its problems, a proposal and a design of every page in Estonian. Once she had seen the design, she asked us to renew the logo as well. Following her comments, we changed the height of the first screen, replaced the truck in the photos with vans and swapped England for Poland. The Estonian copy was approved first time, and then we prepared the English and Russian versions. The manager reviewed the finished site on our staging server, and on 28 October we moved it to the company's hosting. Payment was simple: 50% upfront, the rest after launch and checks.
What we did
- Audit of the old website and a review of competitor sites
- Design of every page in Estonian – sent with the proposal
- New logo, favicon and a full set of logo files
- Pages: services, delivery times, terminals, quote request, information for senders, terms of service, about us, contacts
- Estonian, English and Russian
- Quote request form with spam protection and no picture puzzles
- Google map loads only after a click
- Launch on the company's hosting with HTTPS
Logo: from a single GIF to a complete set
The old logo was a single 198 × 91 pixel GIF: two octagonal links, one orange and one dark grey, and the letters “APT”. An image that small cannot be enlarged without losing quality, and there was no vector file. Our designer prepared four options for the new logo; the manager chose one, and we refined it over one or two rounds. We took the colours from the old website and refreshed them: orange, graphite and a cream background.
- Mark and AUTOPOST wordmark – horizontal and vertical versions
- Colour version for light and dark backgrounds, plus black and white single-colour versions
- Favicon and phone home screen icon
- Files for the company: SVG, PDF, EPS, PNG, JPG, social media images and usage guidelines
